Why does the price per tape fall with larger orders?

Some parts of a conversion job happen once per order rather than once per cassette. Administration, order setup, packaging workflow and return handling do not scale in exactly the same way as playback time. That is why a sensible volume price can be cheaper per tape without implying that later tapes are being skipped or only partly converted.

At our current prices, 20 MP4 conversions cost £179.80 in total, which works out at £8.99 per tape. Twenty DVD conversions cost £199.80, or £9.99 per tape. Compare the total you will actually pay rather than looking only at an advertised “from” price.

At the moment, MP4 is £1 less than DVD for a single tape, and the difference grows with quantity because the current DVD price is £1 more per tape across the standard quantity tiers.

Price should not be the only deciding factor. MP4 is generally the more flexible choice if you want to watch on phones, laptops, tablets and smart TVs, make backups or share copies with family. DVD can make more sense if you specifically want a physical disc and already use a compatible DVD or Blu-ray player.

It depends on the tapes and your circumstances. If you already have good equipment and enjoy old AV hardware, DIY may make perfect sense.
