VHS to Digital FAQs

Wondering what to do with old video tapes UK? If you are thinking about converting your standard VHS tapes to digital files, you probably have a few questions. Below you will find clear answers about our pricing, formats, secure delivery, and why it’s so important to act before your memories fade.

How much does VHS to digital conversion cost?

Our pricing is simple and transparent.

  • £14 for your first tape
  • £12 for each additional tape
  • Optional DVD copy per tape
  • Optional USB stick per order

Digital download is included as standard with every order. The total cost is shown clearly before checkout with no hidden fees.

What is the best format for VHS to digital?

We believe the best format for VHS to digital is a high-quality MP4 file. Your VHS tapes are converted directly into MP4 format because it is widely supported and works seamlessly on laptops, smartphones, tablets, and smart TVs. You can easily download, store, and back up these files.

Can I choose DVD or USB instead of digital download?

Yes. Every order includes a digital download link, but you can upgrade your order during checkout with:

  • A DVD copy per tape
  • A USB stick containing all your converted videos

You can choose either option, or both!

How do I send my VHS tapes securely?

After placing your order, you will receive a postage label by email. Simply package your tapes securely and drop them off at your local Post Office or courier drop point.

Tip: Standard VHS tapes fit perfectly into 15 x 48 cm padded mailers! We highly recommend wrapping your tapes in bubble wrap and placing them in a sturdy mailer or box to ensure they travel safely.

How long does VHS conversion take?

Turnaround times vary depending on volume, but most orders are completed within a few working days after your tapes arrive. You will receive updates when your tapes are received safely and again when your digital files are ready.

Are my original VHS tapes returned?

Yes. Your original tapes are carefully packaged and returned to you safely after the conversion is complete.

Why should I convert VHS to digital now?

VHS tapes deteriorate over time. The magnetic layer weakens, causing fading picture quality, colour distortion and audio loss. VHS players are no longer manufactured, making it harder to access your recordings.

Converting to digital protects your memories permanently and makes them easy to store and share.

Are my memories safe?

Absolutely. All conversions are handled in-house using specialist equipment. We do not outsource your tapes to third parties. Your videos are processed securely, and your digital files are delivered via a protected, private download link.

Is there a maximum tape length?

Most standard VHS tapes are supported, regardless of standard recording lengths. If you are unsure about a particularly long recording, feel free to contact us before ordering.

What if my tape is damaged?

We handle all tapes carefully and will inform you if there are any major issues during playback. Minor playback problems or static can often still be transferred successfully.

Do you offer bulk discounts?

Yes. Our pricing structure rewards bulk orders—the price per tape automatically reduces to £12 for each additional tape you add to your order.

What is your returns and cancellation policy?

Because we provide a highly personalised service by converting your unique family VHS tapes into custom digital files, we cannot offer standard returns or refunds once the digitisation process has begun. However, we always want to make sure your memories are safe and sound!

Cancellations: If you change your mind before you have posted your tapes to us, simply drop us an email and we will issue a full, no-questions-asked refund.

Faulty Media: If your physical USB stick or DVD arrives damaged in the post or the file is corrupted, please let us know within 30 days of receiving your order. We will happily send out a free replacement or offer a refund for the faulty media, in line with your statutory rights.

Blank or Broken Tapes: If you send us a tape and it turns out to be completely blank or physically impossible to play, we will refund you for that specific tape and safely post it back to you.

Can I share my digital files with family?

Yes! Once downloaded, your MP4 files can be freely copied, backed up, and shared with family members. Many of our customers use cloud storage or external hard drives to keep multiple backups for different family members.

How long do VHS tapes last, and do VHS tapes degrade?

Unfortunately, yes, do VHS tapes degrade? The answer is absolutely. The magnetic layer on the tape weakens over time, causing fading picture quality, colour distortion, and audio loss. So, how long do VHS tapes last? Under ideal storage conditions, they generally last 15 to 25 years before noticeable deterioration begins. Because most tapes are now well past this age, it is crucial to digitize them as soon as possible.

How to preserve VHS tapes?

If you are wondering how to preserve VHS tapes, the ultimate solution is digitization. While keeping tapes in a cool, dry place away from magnetic fields slows down physical decay, you cannot stop the aging process. Converting to digital permanently protects your memories, stopping the degradation in its tracks and making them easy to store and share forever.
